Help me attend the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship!
As a teen, I realize how important it is for adolescents to maintain a healthy lifestyle and well being. We are the future of the world and we can make a difference now. My desire to study psychology and nutrition started a year ago at the start of this pandemic. I wanted to make a difference in my eating habits and create a healthy mindset. I am proud to say that both of those goals have been accomplished! Working in the fields of psychology and nutrition will mean more than meal planning and therapy sessions. As much as I work on guiding adolescents to a healthy diet and recovery, the emotional healing process is crucial. From personal experience, progress is both physical and emotional work.
My goal as an adolescent psychologist is to really focus on healthy relationships with food, body image issues and ensuring that each child gets the nutrients their body needs. I seek to help adolescents with their own body image issues and eating disorders because of personal experience and my personal growth with self love and eating healthy. This is the face of America’s mental health care and support!

The Program
The Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship is a first-of-its-kind accelerated internship that pairs motivated high school students with medical pioneers from across the globe to train the next generation of doctors.
Throughout the program, interns will grapple with controversial medical issues and work in small groups to develop extensive public health campaigns. Interns will advocate for their campaigns in front of a team of medical experts with top presentations being implemented in the fall of 2022.
On the final day, interns will use Microsoft and Facebook’s Oculus Rift technology to diagnose a patient in sub-Saharan Africa with a doctor in real-time and recommend treatment and future prevention methods. Leadership Initiatives will cover the cost of all treatments, allowing students to have a direct impact on their patient improving the lives of individuals in need.

Through our exclusive partnership with the Howard University Simulation Center, students will have the rare opportunity to perform an upper endoscopy, an abdominal ultrasound, and learn how to perform phlebotomy using state-of-the-art-simulation units.
Howard University
Interns work with development and public health experts to create an educational public health campaign. This campaign will be published and widely distributed in underserved communities in the developing world to increase awareness.
Public Health Campaign
Students will intern for the Nagari Medical Clinic & Maternity Ward, learning directly from leading doctors in both the United States and the developing world and meeting directly with patients to identify their illness and recommend treatments.

Program Highlights

Anirudh Uppili Mukundan
West Windsor Plainsboro High, Class of 2025
2023 Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship
"The virtual diagnosis was probably one of the most rewarding experiences of this program for almost everyone. I had the opportunity to use key symptoms and diagnostic tests to determine that the patient had one of four diseases. In addition to prescribing the proper medications, I also educated the patient about prevention methods. My biggest accomplishments during this summer was not only academic, but also building relationships with staff members."

Interns work directly with doctors from international organizations and medical experts in the fields of Surgery, Neuroethics, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Public Health from the nation's premier hospitals and medical institutions. Interns walk away from the program with direct experience and knowledge to begin a career in medicine.

Using Oculus Rift Goggles, students will be transported to a hospital, where they will be able to interact with patients in real-time. Using a doctor as an extension of themselves, students will examine and diagnose a patient.
Dr. Aisha Garba, who has over twenty years of experience treating patients in the developing world, will teach interns about the leading causes of disease in the developing world and how to diagnose and treat patients with symptoms of malaria, typhoid fever, anemia, and acute respiratory infections.
