She feels very lucky to be able to participate and get this opportunity, and be able to get information about how business works. Karla chose this program because she wanted the opportunity to be able to learn about business and able to know what it feels like when she goes to college and gets that future experience. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 200;\">As a sophomore at Manuseto high school, Karla is an honor student enrolled in honors and IB classes next year. She is in the business and leadership program. She is planning to get a scholarship and go to college. She wants to be able to have her own business and be an entrepreneur. Karla was part of the soccer team but because of an injury, she is not able to play but is gonna play in the future when she gets better. In school, she has gotten the Honor Roll and Principles List awards multiple times. She tries her hardest in school for a first-generation student in her family.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 200;\">Karla is very excited to be joining this program because she will be to gain real-world experience, explore future careers, develop leadership skills, and prepare for college life. that she wanted to pursue a career in a dynamic and creative industry. She was able to secure an apprenticeship in a salon owned by her neighbor Gloria. The apprenticeship provided Wadihm the opportunity to learn both the fundamental and advanced skills necessary to become a hairstylist. In addition to learning hairstyling techniques, working with different hair textures, and the basics of haircare, Wadihm also learned the value of communication, teamwork, and collaboration.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Wadihm's favorite part of working as a hairstylist is having the opportunity to unleash her creativity and the transformative power a haircut can hold. The most prevalent of these issues include the inability to purchase the technology for her salon, lack of a financial management system, and difficulty advertising. Additionally, the hairdressing industry is a highly competitive and saturated market. Wadihm faces the challenge of distinguishing her salon from those that offer the same services. Building a strong brand identity will be crucial to overcome this challenge.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Eventually, Wadihm hopes to expand her customer base and become a well-known destination for hairstyling. They reside in a small mud house in the Yelwan Kagadama community of Bauchi. She is single and the second youngest of her five siblings. Her father has been retired for some time now and her mother is a full-time housewife. Her family has struggled for a long time living on her father's savings and the little income he makes as a retiree. Due to their financial limitations, Wadihm was unable to pursue a degree. Despite this, she was determined to make something of herself and found a way to pursue her dream of being a hairstylist.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Wadihm wakes up early to begin her day by saying a prayer with her parents. She spends the rest of her morning helping her parents with household chores and preparing food for her parents. Despite these hardships, Wadihm remained determined to pursue her dream of becoming a hairstylist. Being one of eight siblings, she shares a close bond with her seven sisters, with four of them being older and three younger. Growing up in a household brimming with feminine energy, Wadihm was inspired by the beauty industry from a young age. She hopes to pursue journalism and is achieving that goal by planning to study mass communications at college. In the International Leadership and Business Internship, I worked directly with some of the world\u2019s leading developmental experts in order to build my partners business and brand. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-custom-lineheight\" style=\"font-size:17px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300;line-height:1.3\">At the conclusion of this internship, our team pitched the final proposal to a panel of esteemed judges from the Leadership Initiatives Nigerian Development Team and the Leadership Initiatives Grant Committee. This formal pitch allowed our team to practice our skills and utilize our entrepreneurial toolkit, all while showcasing our efforts to transform the business we partnered with.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-custom-lineheight\" style=\"font-size:17px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300;line-height:1.3\">At the end of the pitch, we were able to receive feedback on our proposal for our business partner. She provided us with a crash course in advertising and marketing, in which we learned essential components of an effective marketing campaign. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-custom-lineheight\" style=\"font-size:17px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300;line-height:1.2\">Our work with Ms. Brooks was essential in preparing us for our culminating pitch deck presentation.
