business partners, our team worked with the Nigerian development staff to create effective solutions to the challenges our business partner was      <div class=\"business-content-para\">\r\n                    <p>Shafiu initially sold charcoal before switching to the laundry business when the charcoal business collapsed. He trained as an apprentice for just one year under Mallam Saidu Bako of the Miri community in Bauchi State. Known for his hard work and desire to earn money legitimately, Shafiu learned valuable skills from his boss. He mastered dedication, commitment, honesty, and customer relations. He also learned to pay attention to detail and various fabric-washing techniques to ensure customer satisfaction. Now a professional laundry business owner, Shafiu is well-prepared to serve his community and build a successful career.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>While Shafiu is happy with his business, he faces several challenges. First, dealing with difficult customers is stressful, and hand washing large quantities of jeans and tough fabrics is often painful. He frequently returns home tired and exhausted. Secondly, hand washing is very time-consuming. He hopes to expand his business by opening <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">another shop in a different community. Branching out to different communities will be hard, but Shafiu is excited about the challenge. Firstly, ensuring a reliable supply of clean water, essential for laundry operations, can be difficult due to inconsistent municipal water supply and the high cost of alternative water sources like boreholes. Secondly, acquiring and maintaining high-quality laundry equipment such as washers, dryers, and pressing machines can be costly, with limited local suppliers and expensive import tariffs adding to the financial burden. He is married and has a <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">seven-year-old daughter named Khadija. Every morning, he wakes up to say <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">his prayers according to Islamic rites, then goes back to sleep for a while <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">before taking his bath. After getting ready, he arranges for a bike man to <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">take his daughter to school. Once Khadija has left for school, Shafiu will <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">have his breakfast and go to work at his laundry shop. There have been <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">tough times when the family didn't have enough food and even went to <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">bed hungry at some point. When he migrated to the city in search of better opportunities, life was tough. He started by selling charcoal while squatting with a friend who was a gatekeeper in a single room. Through the charcoal business, he managed to rent his own space and eventually got <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">married. When the charcoal business collapsed, he had to start all over again, facing difficult times until he began as an apprentice in his former boss's laundry business, which marked a turning point for him and his wife. Shafiu is excited to partner with Leadership Initiatives, believing that this partnership will give his business visibility, expand it, generate profits, <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">employ young people, and enable him to give back to his community.&lt;\/p&gt;<\/span>\r\n\r\n&lt;p&gt;In his words, <span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">\"Working with Leadership Initiatives would be a great opportunity for me. I never expected to be selected for this program, especially because I don't have any formal education. However, here I am, and my joy knows no bounds. I believe this will mark the beginning of greater things for me and <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">my family. We discussed critical topics including investments, international trade, and human rights. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-custom-lineheight\" style=\"font-size:17px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300;line-height:1.2\">While touring the embassy, I learned about the wide range of policy issues and gained a better understanding of the embassy\u2019s role in international development through sustainable and inclusive initiatives. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-custom-lineheight\" style=\"font-size:17px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300;line-height:1.2\">My visit to the Embassy of Switzerland was not only educational, but inspiring. She provided us with a crash course in advertising and marketing, in which we learned essential components of an effective marketing campaign.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-custom-lineheight\" style=\"font-size:17px;font-style:normal;font-weight:300;line-height:1.2\">Our work with Ms. Brooks was essential in preparing us for our culminating pitch deck presentation.
