Our 2021 Programs

Leadership Initiatives

Leadership Initiatives is committed to ensuring health, safety, and well-being at all of our world-class summer Youth Development Programs. After leading the industry with our virtual programs in the summer of 2020, Leadership Initiatives is continuing to adapt and reimagine the 2021 Programs to meet and surpass new health guidelines and considerations for COVID-19. As the situation continues to rapidly change, Leadership Initiatives is closely monitoring the guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), local officials, and our university partners at Georgetown to evolve our programs and prioritize community and student safety.

Georgetown University announced that the campus will be closed to all non-Georgetown undergraduate students this summer. This means that all in-person high school programs hosted by Georgetown University this summer must be canceled or relocated.

After exploring our options for alternative locations, Leadership Initiatives has had to make the difficult decision to move all Youth Development Programs to a virtual format for the 2021 summer. Hundreds of universities around the country have shut down their campus for the summer, including Georgetown University, American University, and George Washington University in the DC area, and conference locations like the 4-H convention center have permanently closed or are not available for summer 2021. We have contacted our past partners at Harvard University, the University of Chicago, Stanford University, and Emory University as possible alternative hosts for the 2021 summer but they have also decided to close their campuses this summer.
