Internship Application Requirements

Leadership Initiatives recieves over 18,000 applications for 1,000 internship positions every year.

Students are required to submit a personal statement when applying for Leadership Initiatives' summer internship programs. This statement plays a vital role in the application process, as it allows students to go beyond grades and test scores to share their personal stories, values, and ambitions. It is a chance for applicants to reflect on their growth, articulate their passion for leadership, and demonstrate how their unique experiences, skills, and goals align with the mission and values of the Leadership Initiatives programs. A strong personal statement can set an applicant apart by highlighting their commitment to making a meaningful impact through leadership and service.

Personal Statement

As part of the application for Leadership Initiatives' summer internship programs, students are required to submit at least one letter of recommendation. This letter should come from a teacher, mentor, or community leader who can speak to the student’s character, work ethic, and leadership potential. A strong recommendation provides valuable insight into the applicant’s abilities and helps the selection committee better understand their qualifications beyond what is listed on a resume or transcript. The letter of recommendation is an important component because it offers an outside perspective on the student’s strengths and contributions. It can highlight qualities such as initiative, responsibility, teamwork, and a commitment to growth—traits essential for success in a leadership-focused internship.

Letter of Recommendation

A high school transcript provides a record of the student’s academic performance, including courses taken, grades earned, and overall GPA. It helps the selection committee assess the applicant’s dedication to their studies and their ability to manage academic responsibilities effectively. The high school transcript is an important component because it offers a clear picture of the student’s academic journey and consistency over time. While the program values leadership and personal growth, academic achievement is also considered a strong indicator of a student’s discipline, critical thinking skills, and readiness to take on new challenges. Students should ensure their transcript is up to date and reflects their most recent academic progress.

High School Transcript

Students are asked to provide two references who can speak to their qualifications, character, and leadership potential. These references may include teachers, mentors, coaches, or community leaders who have worked closely with the student and can offer meaningful insights into their abilities and achievements. Providing two strong references allows the selection committee to gain a well-rounded understanding of the applicant from multiple perspectives. Students should choose individuals who know them well and can speak thoughtfully about their contributions and potential.

Two References

As part of the application process for the Leadership Initiatives Summer Internship Programs, all applicants are required to participate in an interview. This interview allows our team to gain deeper insight into each candidate’s interests, goals, and qualifications, while also providing applicants with the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the structure, expectations, and unique benefits of our programs. Scheduling information and interview instructions will be provided after the initial application is submitted.
